The plummeting passing rate of FMGE students is also alarming for the NMC students, because foreign universities are not able to teach the students according to the NMC gazette. Making the situation worse, 77 percent failed the screening test FMGE in 2025.
“Schedule 1” of NMC gazette demands a minimum 54-months MBBS equivalent followed by 12 months of mandatory hands-on clinical clerkship. It specifies direct clinical skills in core departments like General Medicine, General Surgery.
But, many universities treat clinical internship as an observational unit, rather than a full-time learning. Many, foreign medical universities based their curriculum on local demographics, instead they should make the curriculum which aligns with the universal core subject of general medicine.
